From an early age I (Frankie) was curious and keen to try new things, but when it came to treats I often got frustrated with what my parents bought. Some only lasted seconds, some tasted like rubber, some hurt my tummy and others were simply boring. At my local dog park I asked my friends if they had the same issues and Doug (the Pugg) said "his tasted too salty", Sally (the Cavoodle) said "her treats were too dry" and Betsy (the Great Dane) said "I tend to just swallow mine because I don't like the taste" ... the rest of the gang all seemed to agree, but they all deeply love their owners and didn't want to upset them so never said anything and simply ate what they were given.I knew my parents loved me and only want the best for me that's why one night when they were sleeping I jumped onto my parents laptop and checked out what was available.OMG... no wonder they had so much difficulty finding quality, tasty treats that were good for me, as there was so much choice. With literally hundreds of options, I knew I had my work cut out for me, but I knew who's best to cut through the confusing glossy packaging and jargon to discover what's best ... a human or a dog?
I came up with a list of must have's:
No preservatives Locally sourced quality Australian meat
No salt
Furry and scaly; to keep things interesting
Crunchy, chewy and crinkly; so I don't get bored.
Now the real work began, and with my parents bank card (sorry mum and dad) I jumped on the iPad began ordering a range of treats that seemed to meet my discerning criteria and over the next few weeks packages began to arrive.
Mum and dad seemed confused, thinking each other must have ordered these treats, but were happy that I was happy and so began the fun part of my experiment... the taste testing.
It took a few months to get through all those treats after which it was time to come clean with mum and dad. As expected, they weren't upset, although somewhat curious how I managed to use the iPad, to which I rolled my eyes and said "guys, it's a GenY thing, everyone knows how to use an iPad these days" ... sometimes I forget they are around 280 years old (dog years) and don't get technology like us young pups.
They were super excited with all I had learnt and promised to only buy me the best treats from know on, but I didn't want to stop there. I thought about all of my other furry pals and didn't want them to miss out, so I asked mum and dad to create an easy to use website to take the guess work out of picking treats and so began "Furry Treats Co".
At Furry Treats Co, we might not have hundreds of options, but that's by design to help make selecting quality treats easy and stress free.
